Happy New Year, everyone! ヾ(๑╹ヮ╹๑)ﾉ”
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! Since it’s the beginning of the year, it’s that time when your motivation is high & you’re full of spirit. ( •̀ᄇ• ́)ﻭ✧ One of my resolutions is to make these reviews in a more timely manner & consistently. What kind of resolutions have you made for 2016?
I thought I’d start off with a Nendoroid from one of my favorite anime & mobile games.. Nishikino Maki from Love Live! made by Good Smile Company.
Here’s some music to accompany today’s review!
Important Note: For some reason, the coloring on Maki’s skin looks more reddish in my photos. In real life, the box is completely normal! I tried to remedy this when editing, but I couldn’t figure out a method without sacrificing the rest of the images. Please let me know if you have any tips!
Just like the rest of the Love Live! Nendoroids, the box is a little smaller than the standard ones. Also, like the others, it features the idol’s main color & eye color; for Maki it’s red & purple.
It’s important to note the Sunrise sticker on the front of the box; this helps drastically in determining that it’s a genuine figure! If you don’t see this proof of authenticity, it’s more than likely a bootleg. Just a quick search on eBay can yield a fair amount of these wannabe figures. You can check out the known images for bootlegs here.
The top & bottom of the box show a nice contrast of Maki’s personality. She is the tsundere type that can be easily embarrassed by the rest of Muse but can easily smile while being an idol!
Since this particular line of Nendoroids are based on a musical performance, they don’t come with a lot. Maki comes with the following:
- Main figure with standard smiling face
- Embarassed face
- Two arms bent at the elbow with two hands
- One arm bent at the elbow but base of it is at an angle (used for putting her hand on her hip)
- A hand in a pinch position (used to have her playing with her hair with the embarrassed face)
- Two legs bent at the knee
- Headband with hat
- Figure base
- Figure arm stand
- An extra neck joint
Oh no!! ヽ(ﾟДﾟ)ﾉ Maki-chan’s been dismembered! Haha..
One of the charms of collecting the Love Live! Nendoroids is that each girl has their own unique outfit that you can mix and match to create something entirely new. You’ll also notice that the attachment of the hands to the arms are different from most Nendoroids.
The individual pieces of the body are:
- Blouse sleeves
- Gloved hand
In comparison to the official images of the outfit from “Bokura wa Ima no Naka de” the similarities are pretty much flawless!
Even though Nendoroids are four inches tall, Good Smile Company makes sure to not leave out details! Her earrings (which are hidden under her hair), buttons & the chain on her skirt are metallic. Even her boots have a glossy finish!
The expressions in the anime come to life in Nendoroid form.
Now it’s time for my favorite part of the review.. dress up time! （人´∀`*）
I was inspired by Maki’s outfit from “Dancing stars on me!”
If you keep up to date on the Marvel cinematic universe, you’ll know this is a parody from the trailer of Captain America: Civil War. I was also inspired by this fan art of the members as Avengers characters.
Since I don’t do much with KanColle, I thought it’d be nice to use one of the ship girls! I chose Kumano because she’s the rich girl type, similar to Maki. I also really love this color palette.
Do you think Kyouko would make a good idol?
As an obsessive fan of Love Live!, this was an automatic pre-order. At the original retail price of ¥3,241 ($26) & it’s lack of accessories the figure is really targeted towards fans. An accompanying Training Outfit version will be released in February 2016.
